I have forty years of racing, with probably between 500 and 800 races. Every time I get in line at the start, I am nervous! The hardest thing to learn is not letting that nervous energy take over in the first part of the race and your pace is too fast in the beginning. I really have to focus on the first mile. By the start of the second, I am usually focused, and my nerves go away. But, those first couple of minutes, yikes!
